Postcards from Rae's on Wategos
Rae’s on Wategos holds a special place in my heart as it is one of my parents favourite places to stay. My dad always said he loved leaving the shutters open and listening to the waves coming from magnificent Wategos Beach.
Staying in the Mirabella Penthouse for a romantic weekend was a dream come true. You can feel the rich history of Rae’s in its walls and the endless warmth from Hotel and Spa Manager Marionne De Candia and her team made the stay unforgettable.
I started our stay with a beautiful and relaxing facial artfully performed by Marionne herself. The Rae’s Award Winning Spa is situated in an Italian Mother of Pearl tiled alcove by the pool. Reminiscent of a Moroccan Temple you immediately feel almost obliged to leave your worries at the door and clear your mind. This renewed and grounded headspace set the tone immediately for the weekend that followed.
Upon check in we walked the winding staircase to our Penthouse suite, resident artist David Bromley’s exquisite work fuelling our vision at every turn. Bromley has always been one of my favourite Australian artists and i’ve always dreamt of being painted by him so having his art and murals through out Rae’s and our suite was a particular highlight for me.
Opening the heavy Balinese wooden doors to our room was breathtaking. Endless rooms and balconies over looking the ocean instantly reinforced we were in for a truly magical time.
Lying in the four poster wooden bed from Java with the soft winter breeze and muslin curtains flowing gently was as peaceful as you could wish for.
Being water babies it was heavenly to start each morning swimming with the dolphins on Wategos, a stone throw from our suite and then ending each night soaking in the deluxe bath set in the Italian marble floor.
I use the word magical when describing this weekend at Rae's on Wategos as it really was. Such a special moment in time that we will never forget.
